Asian Liposuction
Liposuction can remove stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond well to diet and exercise. In Asian patients, the areas that most often collect fat are the arms and the waist area. However, due to the scarring tendency of Asian patients, Dr Barnouti pays particular attention to avoid any unfavourable scarring. Other areas that may be in need of liposuction include the inner and outer thighs, the calves, and the back.
Liposuction is often performed with local anaesthesia, the tumescent technique, and twilight sedation. This technique involves injecting a mixture of local anaesthetic, adrenaline, and saline just below a patient’s skin. The anaesthetic numbs the skin while the adrenaline constricts blood vessels. The advantage of this technique is that there is very little bruising or pain after surgery.
With smaller areas of liposuction, Dr Barnouti uses local anaesthesia (without sedation) to allow the patient to stand up at the end of the procedure so he can ensure optimal results.
The procedure is a day surgery in Sydney; patients can go home the same day. Most people who receive this type of liposuction can get back to their regular routines and work in just a couple of days.
