Chin & Cheek Augmentation Sydney

Facial harmony relies on the precise relationship between your underlying bone structure and overlying soft tissue. Dr Barnouti offers specialized implant procedures to address these proportions, providing permanent structural support to flat cheekbones or a weak jawline. Depending on your anatomical requirements, these may be performed individually or during the same clinical operation.

Cheek Augmentation (Facial Implants)

Cheek augmentation provides permanent structural support to flat cheekbones or restores volume lost to ageing. Dr Barnouti uses either the patient’s own fatty tissue (biological fat injections) or synthetic implants (Silicone or Medpor). If implant surgery is chosen, the incision is made inside the mouth, leaving a 3.5 cm internal scar with no visible external scarring. Sutures are dissolvable and do not require removal.

Chin Enhancement (Genioplasty & Implants)

Chin enhancement creates a refinement to the lower face and jawline. For surgical augmentation, Dr Barnouti uses Silicone, GoreTex, or Medpor implants. The procedure leaves a small 3–4 cm scar hidden under the chin or entirely unseen inside the mouth. Fat injections may also be recommended for a more subtle improvement.

FAQs Facial Contouring & Implants

What are the risks associated with facial implants?2026-05-21T14:00:07+10:00

All surgical procedures carry risks. Specific risks associated with facial implants include infection, bleeding, implant shifting or asymmetry, extrusion (the implant breaking through the skin), and temporary or permanent numbness due to nerve irritation in the cheeks or chin. A complete list of risks tailored to your specific procedure will be discussed in detail during your mandatory consultation.

Please read our Risks and Complications of Plastic Surgery page.

Why do I need a GP referral and two consultations for these procedures?2026-05-21T13:59:20+10:00

Under the updated AHPRA and Medical Board of Australia guidelines, all cosmetic surgery patients must obtain a referral from their General Practitioner (GP). This ensures an independent medical assessment of your overall health and psychological readiness. Furthermore, a minimum of two clinical consultations and a mandatory 7-day cooling-off period are required to ensure you have ample time to consider the risks, costs, and expected outcomes without pressure.

Will there be visible scarring after cheek or chin implants?2026-05-21T13:57:51+10:00

For cheek augmentation, the incision is typically made entirely inside the mouth, leaving a small 3.5 cm internal scar with no visible external scarring. For chin implants, the surgeon will either use an incision hidden inside the lower lip or a small 3–4 cm incision concealed in the natural crease under the chin. Dimple surgery and buccal fat removal are also performed intra-orally (inside the mouth), ensuring no visible scars on the face.

Can I combine a chin implant with other procedures like a rhinoplasty?2026-05-21T13:57:15+10:00

Yes, it is very common to combine facial contouring procedures. For example, a chin implant is frequently performed alongside a rhinoplasty (nose surgery) to achieve balanced facial proportions and an improved side profile. Combining procedures allows for a single anaesthetic and recovery period. During your consultation, your specialist plastic surgeon will conduct a full medical assessment to ensure that combining surgeries is clinically safe and appropriate for your anatomy.
