Thigh Lift / Thigh reduction.
A thigh lift is a well-tolerated procedure that can help improve the contour of the medial portion of the upper leg by removing excess skin and fatty tissue. Scarring from the thigh lift is well concealed in the area of the groin and the inner aspect of the thigh.
Planning Your Surgery
The consultation
In your initial consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your health and explain which surgical techniques may be the most appropriate for you, based on the condition of your thighs and skin tone.
The Surgery
This surgery is performed with general anaesthetic requiring you to fast 6 hours prior.
In thigh lift surgery, the incision is placed along the upper inner thigh area. In some cases, where additional lift is needed, the incision may carry on along either the groin line or the buttock fold. Excess skin and fat are removed through the incisions and the remaining skin is stitched closed. Sometimes the operation is performed in conjunction with liposuction. Regardless of the location of the surgical incision, every effort is made to insure that the resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible. Drainage tubes following the operation may be needed, and the surgery usually takes about 2-4 hours to complete. Dissolving stitches are used to close the incisions, which will also be taped for greater support.
After surgery
You will be required to stay in the hospital overnight. Make sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help out for few days.
You’re likely to feel tired and sore for a few days following your surgery, but you’ll be up and around in 24 to 48 hours.
Most of your discomfort can be controlled by medication that we will prescribe.
Within one week, the supporting tape will be removed, the wound will be checked at our clinic, and you will be asked to wear a compression garment. This is to reduce swelling and assist in shrinking and tightening the skin.
What are the risks associated with this procedure?

Gym and normal activities in 3-4 weeks.
Your scars will be firm and pink for six weeks. After 6 months, your scars will begin to fade to a white line.
Mandatory Surgical Warning
Surgical Warning: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Please read our Risks and Complications of Plastic Surgery page.
GP Referral & Assessment Requirements
In accordance with the latest April 2026 AHPRA and Medical Board of Australia regulations, all patients seeking a consultation for cosmetic surgery must obtain a referral from their General Practitioner (GP). This ensures your medical history is reviewed by an independent doctor who can discuss your motivations and goals before you meet with a specialist.
A mandatory seven-day cooling-off period applies after your initial consultation before surgery can be booked. Patients are also encouraged to seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding. These requirements exist to protect patients and to ensure every decision is fully informed and free of pressure.
