Rhinoplasty Sydney – Nose Job sydney

Rhinoplasty

Nose Job, Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the size, shape, and/or position of the nose.
It is more commonly referred to as a nose job and is one of the most popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures available.

The patient may decide to reduce or increase the size of their nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and the upper lip.

Rhinoplasty, Nose job and Nose reshaping surgery, is often performed with Septoplasty or Turbinectomy to improve on breathing at the same time. It is performed from inside the nose and produces no scars.

Being one of the most technical and creative procedures in plastic surgery, Dr. Barnouti takes pride in specialising in the rhinoplasty procedure.

What is Septoplasty?

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure aims at correcting a deviated nose septum to improve breathing. Many patients suffer from difficult or obstructed breathing that may result from a septum that is deviated to one nasal airway and blocking it.

This problem resolved by either straightening the septum or removing the deviated part of the septum. This results in patent airways and easy breathing through both nostrils.

What is Turbinectomy?

Turbinate is an anatomic structure situated inside the nose. It may get enlarged or hypertrophied for multiple reasons. As it gets bigger, breathing become more restricted. Dealing with this problem involves reducing the size of the Turbinate.

Usually performed at the same time of Nose job, Rhinoplasty. The aim of the procedure is to improve and facilitate breathing.

In consideration of your rhinoplasty in Sydney Plastic Surgery, alterations may be made to your nasal tip, your nasal dorsum, your nasal width, and your nasal base. A change in one of these features, however, can have significant effect on the appearance of the others. Meticulous surgical technique, combined with an in-depth knowledge of nasal anatomy and a wide array of rhinoplasty nuances allows Dr. Barnouti to customise the rhinoplasty operation to your individual needs.

The Surgery

The surgeon sculpts and reshapes the framework of cartilage and bone, which makes up the nose.
Access to this is gained in one of two ways; either directly through the nostrils (without visible scar), or by means of a small incision across the columella (the vertical strip of tissue separating them). This will depend on the nature of the individual circumstance.

Reduction Rhinoplasty (reducing the nose, changing the shape and the size)

Contemporary Rhinoplasty or cosmetic reshaping of the nose has undergone numerous changes over the last two decades. A reduction rhinoplasty is specified for patients who have larger noses that they want to look smaller. It is achieved by cutting away excessive cartilage and bone and letting the natural skin envelope shrink down to the smaller framework. The aim of the procedure is to produce a natural looking nose that maintains exceptional breathing capacity.

Augmentation Rhinoplasty (enlarging the nose, changing the shape and the size)

This technique utilises natural tissue to create a nose that matches the face and the race of the individual. The skin of the nose has no shape; it is the underlying cartilage and bony architecture that give shape to the nose. Therefore these noses require precise placement of grafts (your own tissue) and sometimes implant material to produce a natural looking nose that matches the face and nose of the individual. This is a common procedure for Asians.

Reshaping Rhinoplasty (changing the shape only)

Some patients are pleased with the size of their noses but not pleased with the shape. This may include the shape of the tip, the bridge, or the root of the nose. Such medical problems can be addressed with a variety of manurers ranging from a simple non-invasive technique to a larger scale surgical procedure.

After Surgery

A splint or cast will be applied immediately after surgery.

The nose will be sensitive to touch for the first few days. There will also be some bruising for 7-10days, reaching its peak 2 to 3 days after surgery.

Cold compresses or ice packs will be applied for the first 24hours to minimise swelling and bruises and help accelerate the healing process.
If there are stitches, they are removed 5 to 7 days after surgery, after which the majority of patients do not need further dressing.

Getting you back to work and regular activities

You will need to rest completely for two days and can return to work after the first week provided work does not involve strenuous activities like lifting heavy objects.

Intense physical activity should be avoided for about a month due to the vulnerability of the nose during this time.

Rhinoplasty/Septoplasty/Turbinate reduction. Also known as Septorhinoplasty with Turbinectomy.

Rhinoplasty, or corrective nose surgery, is one of the most artistic procedures in plastic surgery. Achieving a balanced appearance to the nasal shape, from both the frontal and side views, must be combined with meticulous attention to the functional purpose of the nose. It produces the new look by changing the underlying cartilage and bone.

Dr. Barnouti emphasise on matching the nose to be in balance with the rest of your face. This means taking into account your facial proportions, skin thickness, cartilaginous rigidity, and bony formations. Simultaneously, your nasal septum may require to be addressed to improve breathing. Other nasal structures such as the turbinates may require assessment and surgical adjustment for the same reasons. It is vital that a multifaceted approach be utilised in assessment as well as execution of your septorhinoplasty.

At the consultation you will be educated about the details of your operative assessment and the reasoning behind each of the planned surgical manoeuvres. Computer analysis can assist in conveying your wishes to the surgeon and may also help the surgeon relay postoperative expectations back to you.

As one of the most technical and creative procedures in plastic surgery, Dr. Barnouti takes pride in specialising in the rhinoplasty(nose job), septoplasty(correction of deviated septum) and Turbinate reduction (reducing the inferior turbinate to facilitate breathing).
